I am 25 years old. I grew up in Pennsylvania and am the oldest of four children. Throughout childhood and into my adolescence, my parents placed a high value on education and instilled in me a love of learning. I will be forever grateful for the time, money and effort my parents invested in my future through my education.
It was after high school, that this love for learning led me to attend Bloomsburg University where I pursued an Elementary Education degree. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in December of 2008 with an Elementary (K-6) Teaching Certificate. I also minored in Spanish and shortly after graduating, completed the required classes to obtain an ESL (English as a Second Language) Certificate.
Today, it is my goal to pass on my passion for learning to the students I teach. I look for everyday opportunities to make education come alive and cause the "light bulb" of knowledge to illuminate in your child's life.
The following list is a sample of my teaching experience.
Substitute Teaching
- Long-term substitute teaching position in an 8th grade Introduction to Foreign Language class. My duties were to create and carry out lesson plans relating to the four languages required: Spanish, Italian, German, and French. I was responsible for all classroom duties required of a full-time, contracted teacher.
- Day-to-day substitute teaching in the Hazleton Area School District and Berwick Area School District, in Pennsylvania. I have experience substituting in grade levels K-12, and across a wide range of subjects. My duties included implementing and carrying out lesson plans left by the regular teacher as well as all other classroom duties. If there was no lesson plan, I was prepared with an assignment appropriate to the grade level I was teaching that day. I turned down a full-time teaching position in the Hazleton Area School District shortly thereafter because of a planned move to Pleasanton, California.
Student Teaching
- My first placement in student teaching was in an all-day, all-inclusive, Kindergarten classroom. I performed the duties of a contracted teacher with the supervision of the cooperating teacher. Those duties included creating lesson plans and assessments that followed the curriculum guidelines. I also adapted lessons and assessments to aid students' in achieving specific goals.
- My second placement was in a fourth grade all-inclusive classroom.I performed the duties of a contracted teacher with the supervision of the cooperating teacher. Those duties included creating lesson plans and assessments that followed the curriculum guidelines. I also adapted lessons and assessments to aid students' in achieving specific goals.
ESL/ELL Training: I assisted teaching a fifth grade class in which the majority of the students were ESL/ELL students. I worked with individual students and small groups to improve their English language skills.
My practicum was in a third grade math class. Aong-side the cooperating teacher, I taught and assisted in creating exciting and effective lessons in mathematics. I also created adaptations for struggling learners and worked in small groups or individually with those students.
Park Program
- I was the counselor of a summer day camp for children in Conyngham, PA for three years before being promoted to Director. My duties as counselor included organizing arts and crafts and/or sports games daily, and supervising children during daily activities such as, snack time and playground time. I also administered minor first aid when needed.
- As the Director, I managed and organized the entire summer camp, consisting of approximately 100 children and 20 employees. I created work schedules, determined the daily lunch program, scheduled daily crafts and games with the children, arranged special guest appearances, and all other administrative duties.
